Administrative History

The Coordinating Council for Women's Concerns was formed in 1989 to coordinate the work of several programs and groups in the university related to women. The group promoted initiatives against inequality and developed support systems for women at Virginia Tech and in the community. The Coordinating Council for Women's Concerns went on to propose the idea of a Women's Center at Virginia Tech, which was formed in 1994. Members of the council came from other organizations, including the Women's Research Institute, the Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action's Subcommittee on Women, the Association for Women in Development, the Women's Studies Program, university governance, and more.
