The collection consists of a receipt received by W. C. Franklin on March 8, 1876, from the Virginia Agricultural and Mechanical College.

The collection includes memorabilia from William E. Franklin's student years (1872-1875) at Virginia Agriculture and Mechanical College: a program from the 1875 commencement exercises, an undated photo of the Cadet Corps, and an 1879 letter from Charles Martin, a professor of English.

The collection contains one letter by F. E. Garnett to General Gabriel Wharton dated August 30, 1878, inquirying about Virginia Agricultural and Mechanical College for the potential education of his nephews.

This collection consists of six uniform buttons belonging to Jesse T. Heard, who attended Virginia Agricultural and Mechanical College in 1887.

The photograph collection at Special Collections and University Archives consists primarily of historical photographs of Virginia Tech, dating back to the 1890s. The collection is also home to historic images of Blacksburg, Montgomery County, the New River Valley, and Southwest Virginia in general. A photograph collection of faculty and staff from the university is maintained separately.

This collection contains a handwritten letter from Leslie D. Kline (1871-1953), who attended Virginia Agricultural and Mechanical College from 1892-1896, regarding the release of the annual yearbook titled the Bugle.

The collection contains Lane family letters, a copy of James H. Lane's commission as commandant of cadets at the Virginia Agricultural and Mechanical College, and a list of rules for the cadets at VAMC.

The collection contains correspondence, photographs, and miscellaneous materials relating to the personal life and university and military service of Claudius Lee, a professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at Virginia Polytechnic Institute.

This collection includes the written minutes and various papers of the Lee Literary Society from 1873 to 1926, and the minutes of the united Lee and Maury Literary Society during the 1928-29 session. The Lee Literary Society was formed from the split of the Virginia Literary Society in 1873 along with its counterpart the Maury Literary Society. LLS helped create the first student publication, the Gray Jacket, in 1875. The LLS folded in 1928.

Map shows the farm and grounds of Virginia Agricultural and Mechanical College. It contains field notes and a table of areas, which defines the acreage of various plots. Two hand-written notes are also on the map, one from Blackford in 1881, and one unsigned, but dated 1902.
