Historical Note

The California Women in Environmental Design (CWED) is a California organization of women professionals that are involved in planning, architecture, landscape architecture, engineering, interior design, and other related fields. It was formed as an umbrella organization of the Organization of Women Architects and Design Professionals (OWA).

CWED actively promotes the appointment of women to political positions that shape policy and it tracks and urges passage of legislation that supports responsible design and a better professional life for women. It also works to increase the exposure of design professionals through statewide conferences and exhibitions.

The CWED was formerly known as California Women in Architecture.

Abstract

The Organization of Women Architects and Design Professionals (OWA) is an organization for women architects and designers in the San Francisco bay area. It officially became incorporated in 1973. The collection contains documents, reports, agendas, membership directories, photos, slides, and publications concerning the history and activities of the OWA.
