The Viola James Collection contains membership cards for James as a member of the Clarksburg, West Virginia chapter of the Women of the Ku Klux Klan, which are in a wallet marked with the initials "KKK". The collection also has a blank application form and printed Christian literature related to the organization. It also includes a small framed tintype of two unidentified little girls.

This collection contains broadsides, booklets, flyers, short stories of the Virginia Ku Klux Klan in 1966. In addition, there are issues of The Fiery Cross (United Klans of America), published in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

Photocopies of magazine articles and other sources relating to the American Civil War, with particular emphases on Long Island, New York, during the war, African-American history, and the Ku Klux Klan.
