Cadet Uniform Hardware and Insignia

Abstract The Cadet Uniform Hardware and Insignia collection consists of various donations of hardware and insignias. Five identicial gold V.A.M.C. buttons belonged to Frank H. Terry and are from 1877-1879. In the center of the buttons is the Virginia Agricultural and Mechanical College seal. Curving around the edges of the buttons is the text "VIRGINIA AGRICULTURAL AND MECHANICAL COLLEGE." Thirteen V.P.I. buttons from a Corp Cadet overcoat are from c.1926-1930 and belonged to...

Papers associated with William Addison "Add" Caldwell (1856-1910) of Craig County, Virginia, first student enrolled at Virginia Agricultural and Mechanical College (VAMC, later Virginia Tech). Includes a letter written by Caldwell in 1910; his 1875 VAMC report card; a Caldwell family photo portrait; Caldwell's obituary; and a Bible given to Caldwell by Mrs. William C. McKemey.

Samuel Edwin Carnahan (1884-1970) graduated from Virginia Agricultural and Mechanical College and Polytechnic Institute (VPI) in 1907 with a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering. The collection contains his 1907 VPI diploma, signed by VPI president John McBryde and the Board of Visitors.

This collection of materials about accusations in student hazing incident at Virginia Polytechnic Institute, subsequent disciplinary actions by the university's faculty, actions taken by the Board of Visitors, appeal by Judge George L. Christian (father of one of the accused), and proceedings of a joint legislative committee investigating the incident and the college's faculty and administrative practices and policies.

Clarence Paul Miles Academic Regalia

Abstract

The hood is black with a red, sliver, and white lining. A tag on the lining near the neck of the hood reads "THE C.E. WARD CO. NEW LONDON, OHIO 3."

The robe is also black in color with dark blue velvet strip details down the front and on the sleeves. A tag inside of the robe reads "R.J.H. INTERCOLLEGIATE BUREAU COTRELLS LEONARD ALBANY, NNY. U.S.A. MAKERS OF THE CAPS, GOWNS AND HOODS TO THE AMERICAN COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES."

This collection includes business and personal papers of W. Graham Claytor, a 1906 graduate of Virginia Agricultural and Mechanical College (later Virginia Polytechnic Institute) and an executive overseeing the operations of a number of American Gas and Electric Company subsidiaries during the 20th century. It includes correspondence, reports, and printed materials relating to personal financial matters, business operations, Virginia Polytechnic Institute, and ham radio.

John Kelly Copenhaver graduated from the Virginia Polytechnic Institute with a degree in Electrical Engineering in 1920. Collection includes leather bound commencement invitations and programs from 1919 and 1921, as well as a photograph from the reunion of the class of 1920. Pins and buttons from a VPI cadet uniform are also included.
