Biographical Note

Alexander Hamilton Stephens was born near Crawfordville, Georgia on February 11, 1812. He was a United States congressman and later became the Vice President of the Confederate States of America during the Civil War. After the war, Stephens was again elected to congress and served until 1882. He was elected governor of Georgia in 1882 but died March 4, 1883 in Atlanta Georgia.
