Biographical Note

Dr. William R. (also Bill or Billy) Hite, Jr., played football at Varina High School in Henrico County, Virginia, and was a high school All-American. He lettered in football at Virginia Tech in 1979, 1980, 1981, and 1982. He earned his bachelor in science in marketing education in 1984 and a education specialist PhD in 1998, both from Virginia Tech. He also holds a master's in educational leadership from the University of Virginia.

Hite went on to become a pricincipal in Henrico County public schools, superintendent of the School District of Philadelphia from 2012 to 2022, president and CEO of KnowledgeWorks, and the inaugural superintendent in residence and executive fellow at The Broad Center at Yale School of Management for 2022-2023.

Abstract

This collection contains the scrapbook of William R. "Billy" Hite, Jr., when he was a senior at Varina High School in Richmond, Virginia. Hite played football at Varina and Virginia Tech, from which he earned a bachelor's and PhD in education in 1985 and 1998, respectively. He later became a principal and superintedent throughout the Mid-Atlantic United States.
