Biographical Note

William S. Swecker, Sr. (1925-2012) was born in Crabbottom, Highland County, Virginia. He served as a senatorial page for Virginia State Senator Henry T. Wickham (1849-1943), a longtime state legislator around 1940. He was a graduate of Blue Grass High School, and served in the United States Navy during World War Two, from 1943 to 1945. During that time, he achieved the position and rank of quartermaster second class and accompanied Allied landing ships on D-Day, June 6, 1944. After WWII, Swecker reenlisted and served in the U. S. Navy during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953. Swecker recieved a B. S. in animal husbandry from Virginia Tech and operated the Shenandoah Insurance Agency in Stuarts Draft, Virginia. He married Ann Stuart McClure in 1954, and they had two children. He died in Fishersville, Augusta County, Virginia and is buried in Blue Grass, Highland County, Virginia.

This collection contains political and presonal correspondence relating to William S. Swecker, Sr., and his materials related to Senator Henry T. Wickham of the Virginia State Senate. Swecker was a senatorial page for Sen. Wickham and a large portion of the political correspondence relates to his recommendation and appointment.
