Biographical Note

Belva Lorraine Shannon was born August 23, 1949 to Ulysses Randolph and Willia Beatrice Petty. She married Leon Eldridge Hamlet on October 28, 1967 and they divorced March 2, 1970. She later married Willie Shannon on May 11, 1973. Belva was a 1967 graduate of Lucy Addison High School. After graduating high school, she attended a vocational school majoring in business administration and focused on her singing career with her brothers. Belva was the lead vocalist for the family bands. She also worked for WTOY, the local Soul radio station. Later in her career, she worked for Allstate Insurance Company for many years and later retired from Greenvale Day Care Center as a pre-school teacher. She died January 25, 2023.
