Biographical Note

Armistead M. Leggett grew up in Norfolk, Virginia. He enlisted in the Army at the age of 17 in the Army Specialized Training Reserve Program. He attended training at the Carnegie Institute of Technology in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania before being transferred to Fort McClellan for further training. Leggett was sent overseas to fight with the 70th infantry division in the Alsace region of southern France. Leggett served on the front lines and gives accounts of several battles including the Battle of Wingen sur Moder. After the war, Leggett attended the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and graduated with a degree in Agricultural Engineering in 1951.

Abstract

The collection contains a memoir written by Armistead M. Leggett to his children about his service in the United States Army during World War II. Leggett grew up in Norfolk, Virginia and graduated with a degree in agricultural engineering from Virginia Tech in 1951.
