Letter, 1864
Scope and Content
This collection consists of a single letter written by an American Civil War soldier (probably in the Union Army) identified only as "Clinton," written at Nashville, Tennessee on January 5, 1864. Addressed to "Friend Ettie," the letter expresses the writer's desire to get married to "some good looking amiable young lady" if he survives the war and his appreciation for the recent New Year's gift sent to him. The letter is accompanied by an envelope, apparently unrelated, addressed to James M. Brown of East Rochester, New Hampshire, in care of Mrs. Mary L. Abbott.
