Scope and Content
The David Cloyd McGavock Papers consist of ca. 35 items, including letters written by McGavock (d. May 1864) to his mother, his sister Sallie, and his uncle Gordon Cloyd while studying at Roanoke College in 1861 and then from camps near Winchester and Petersburg, Virginia, and Goldsboro, North Carolina, while McGavock served in the Confederate Army during the American Civil War. The collection includes sympathy letters to Sallie after his death and other miscellaneous family papers.
