Scope and Contents
This collection consists of a typescript, comb-bound genealogy compiled by Baptist minister and amateur genealogist J. Marshall Neathery, entitled "Neathery Siblings Had Eight Ancestors in the Civil War: Five of Them at Gettysburg." The work describes the lives of eight Neathery family relatives (most from Granville County, North Carolina) who served in the Confederate Army during the American Civil War: William Robert Currin (1838-1913), Company G, 30th North Carolina Infantry; William Faucett (1837-1904), Company I, 23rd North Carolina Infantry; Granville Grissom (1814-90), Company C, 3rd Battalion North Carolina Senior Reserves; James C. Currin (1836-1915), Jeremiah Hamilton Currin (1832-68), Augustus Dennis Frazier (1833-1903), and James Simeon Hobgood (1836-1911), all of Company K, 55th North Carolina Infantry; and George Daniel Nethery (1834-99), Company G, 14th Virginia Infantry. The book's chapter headings include: "Three Ancestor Grandfathers Missed Gettysburg;" "Synopsis of Currin Hsitory and Four Ancestor Grandfathers;" "In the 55th North Carolina Infantry;" "The 55th Nroth Carolina et. al. etc. in the First Day's Battle;" "Pickett's Division and March of Same Toward Gettysburg;" One of Pickett's Men: George D. Nethery, Co. G, 14th Virginia Infantry;" Pickett's Division Marches to Gettysburg from Chambersburg;" "Ancestor Grandfathers in Pickett's Charge;" "Five Ancestor Grandfathers: After the War Was Over."
