V.A.M.C. Diploma Printing Plate, c. 1876
Scope and Contents
The Virginia Agricultural and Mechanical College diploma printing plate is made of a thin sheet of metal that is mounted onto a wooden frame wth four screws. The metal is a gold/copper hue that has etchings of a standard diploma in reverse. At the top of the plate is the college's seal, followed by text in reverse in the middle, and two crossed rifles at the bottom of the plate. Surrounding the college's seal is text stating "Virgina Argricultural and Mechanical College." The middle of the plate has some standard text in reverse, as well as blank lines for added personalized text and possibly the signatures of the Board of Visitors. Under the two rifles is the name " W.R. Boggs Jr. Del." Signs of age on the plate are minimal, frame is in good condition.
