The Clarence Morfit Letter to Confederate Brigadier General David Ruggles Collection contains a letter dated April 25, 1865 regarding the transportation of property and funds seized from prisoners. The letter dates from one day before the surrender of the Confederate Army. Clarence Morfit had the unique job of buying United States currency from incoming prisoners of war in exchange for Confederate currency they could actually use in prison. The file also contains a typed copy of the letter.
