Scope and Content
The Janet Johnson Collection consists of letters, biographies, personnel and retiree materials, newspaper articles, newsletters, and photographs from 1948 to 2022. These materials relate to home economics, human nutrition and food science, and the Virginia Cooperative Extension Office services at Virginia Tech and throughout the state.

Biographical / Historical
Dr. Sanford Jewel "S.J." Ritchey served as the department head of the College of Human Nutrition and Foods from 1965 to 1973. In 1973, he was appointed as the associate dean of the College of Home Economics, which was renamed in 1982 to the College of Human Resources at Virginia Tech. Dr. S.J. Ritchey retired from Virginia Tech in 1994.
