Petition, 1865
Scope and Content
The collection consists of a petition from former members of the 24th and 29th Virginia Infantries. Fielden L. Hale, John Wilkinson, John Haymore, Abram Dehaven, and W.D. Mitchell signed the petition on June 15, 1865. All vowed to pay "the sum set opposite [their] names" so as to "pardon and release...soldier from Carroll County...held as prisoners of war." If their initial payment would not suffice, the petition signers promised to "make up the deficiency [in] proper share or proportion."
