Thomas Dickerson Ledger

Abstract

This ledger includes notes and business transactions of the plantation owner Thomas Dickerson (also Dickenson and Dickinson), of Nottoway County, Virginia. The plantations grew tobacco, wheat, and corn. Entries include sale of these goods, purchase of others, purchase of medical services for enslaved persons, and cash loans.

Viola James Collection

Abstract

The Viola James Collection contains membership cards for James as a member of the Clarksburg, West Virginia chapter of the Women of the Ku Klux Klan, which are in a wallet marked with the initials "KKK". The collection also has a blank application form and printed Christian literature related to the organization. It also includes a small framed tintype of two unidentified little girls.

Abstract The Erasmus Stribling and David Fultz Indenture, dated September 21, 1830, is between Stribling of Augusta County, Virginia, and Fultz of Bath County for the "term yet to come" for the work of enslaved people who Stribling "hired" from other enslavers. Some of the enslaved people named in the document include George Hodge, Sam Hamilton, Morriss, Sam McClintick, Big James, and Little James.
