116th Regiment, Ohio Infantry Sutler Letter,
The collection consists of an autograph letter signed by a sutler working with the 116th Ohio Infantry, located in September 1863 near Martinsville, Virginia (now West Virginia). The letter discusses business conditions surrounding the 116th Ohio, the Ohio gubernatorial election of 1863 between Clement L. Vallandigham and John Brough, and offers brief information about the regiment and its leisurely activities.
189th Regiment, New York Volunteers Letter
United States Civil War crossed letter (crossed-hatch) written by a Union Soldier in Company D of the 189th New York Volunteers in Weldon Railroad, Virginia on November 6, 1864. The author's name is unknown.
Aaron Family Collection
This collection contains college memorabilia, including photographs, printed material, and banners collected by John H., Jacob C., and Harry B. Aaron, three Bristol, Virginia brothers who attended Virginia Tech during the early 20th century.
Account Book
This collection includes a small account book listing an unidentified individual's personal expenditures, including money paid to Black laborers, an 1838 receipt from the Mechanics Bank of New York, and tavern bills. It includes a note stating the book is an "Account of expenditures from the 3rd of October 1839 in our philanthropic efforts to diffuse useful knowledge throughout the States of Ohio and Kentucky."
Bryan Ackler Papers
The collection includes the papers of Bryan Ackler, a graduate of Virginia Tech (1974) and co-founder and editor of Alice, a Blacksburg, Virginia, underground newspaper. Includes issues of Alice; a tape recording of an interview with two students involved in the occupation of Williams Hall; and a paper by Ackler, "Alice: the Study of a Free Press."
