Administrative History
A Blacksburg, Virginia social club for men, the Stern Old Bachelor's Club's motto was "Millions for defense, but not one cent for matrimony." The club held its first meeting in 1928. Officers listed in the minutes for the April 6, 1928 meeting were: Baxter Johnson, president; Gordon Bennett; vice-president; R. C. Henderson, second vice-president; James G. Thomas, business manager; Champ Lester, Ellett representative; Pat Arrington, ambassador to Washington County; Herman Dickerson, director; David Slusser, secretary and treasurer. The guest registers within the minutes show that women as well as men attended the annual meetings.
