Scope and Content

The Edward E. Thompson Memorabilia includes scrapbooks of a 1932 ROTC camp, Burma, New Guinea, World War II photographs, and China in 1981. A second scrapbook contains letters, cards, newspaper clippings, and photographs of politicians Richard Nixon, Dwight Eisenhower, Gerald Ford, Nancy Reagan, and Charles Robb.

Biographical Note

Edward Everett Thompson (1911-1989) was born in Lyle, Minnesota, to Theodore Albert Thompson and Alma Marie Ostenson. He was a veterinarian who established the Salem (Virginia) Veterinary Hospital and was involved in the Virginia Veterinary Medical Association. He also served as a Major in the Veterinary Corps of the U. S. Army during World War II. Thompson married Mary Virginia Morris (1913-2003) on October 1, 1936, in Roanoke, Virginia, where they are buried in the Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.

The Thompsons are the namesakes of the Virginia M. and Edward E. Thompson Award and the Edward E. Thompson Award for Excellence in Teaching, Research, and Public Service at Virginia Tech.

Abstract
