Blacksburg [Virginia] Presbyterian Church Land Deeds
Scope and Contents
This collection contains three deeds for properties relating to Blacksburg [Virginia] Presbyterian Church. In a deed dated 1848, Ann Burk conveys to the church's trustees (Charles Black, John Peterman, Edwin I. Amiss, William Thomas, Thomas Brown, Daniel H. Hoge, and Thomas T. Jackson) 1800 square feet in the southwest corner of Lot 24, the site of the church. A 1904 deed between the church's trustees (K. Black, W. M. Lybrook, and Edward Black), sells to J. G. Price, J. P. Harvey, J. A. Anderson, W. O. Frith, and H. E. Gray (trustees for the Blacksburg Lodge, I.O.O.F) property at the corner of Lee and Main streets. In a warranty deed dated 1924, Wayne C. Grissom, Maggie Bodell, et al. sell to trustees of the Blacksburg Lodge, I.O.O.F. property on Lee Street abutting property previously conveyed to Blacksburg Presbyterian Church.

Biographical / Historical
Blacksburg Presbyterian Church was organized in 1832, with a frame building later erected near what is today the corner of Clay and Church streets. In 1847, a new, brick church was erected on the north corner of Main and Lee streets (in 2023, the building houses Cabo Fish Taco restaurant). In 1904, the Blacksburg Presbyterian congregation moved into a new brick church at 115 East Roanoke Street (home to Blacksburg First Church of God in 2023). The church has been in its present location (701 Church Street Southeast) since 1957.
