The names of individuals pictured are included in a caption beneath the photo itself and include Rev. John Horton, Rev. John Wm. Morris, Prof. J. C. Carper, D.D., and Judge D. W. Bolen. Other family names figuring predominantly within the group are Beamer, Combs, Monday, Morris, and Smith. The caption cites W. [R.?] Morris as the photo's printer and owner.

No historical information could be found regarding a Fancy Gap Church, although one source listed it as an alternative name for Fancy Gap Methodist Church.
