Biographical Note - Charles William Bratton

The Charles Bratton of the photograph may be Charles William Bratton, who was born on October 9, 1903. He married Nancy Pearl Barlow on April 9, 1925, in Pocahontas County, West Virginia. They were divorced on November 29, 1944, while Bratton was living in Augusta County, Virginia. He died February 24, 1975, and is buried alongside his wife Agnes P. (1895-1971) in Snider Cemetery in Prices Fork, Montgomery County, Virginia.

Historical Note - Hoge-Berkeley Studio

In the 1922 Staunton, Virginia, City Directory, Oliver Z. Hoge and Edmund Berkeley are each listed as owner of Hoge-Berkeley Studio.

Oliver Zell Hoge was born to P. Byron Hoge and Mary Elizabeth Jordan on December 16, 1880, in Baltimore, Maryland. He died on August 24, 1945, and is buried alongside his wife Stella Hanson (1881-1962) in Thornrose Cemetery in Staunton.

Edmund Berkeley (sometimes Edmond and Berkely) was born to Edmund Berkeley and Mary Randolph on September 20, 1844, in Staunton, Virginia. He enlisted as a private in the McClanahan Company of the Staunton Horse Light Artillery, of the Confederate Army during the American Civil War. He was discharged due to disability on August 15, 1863. He died on September 27, 1924, and is also buried in Thornrose Cemetery in Staunton.
