Scope and Content
This collection consists of four documents pertaining to Company E, 12th Regiment Michigan Infantry of the United States Army, all signed by Captain W. S. Bostwick in November of 1865 after the end of the American Civil War. The documents are a Statement of Charges on Muster and Pay Rolls; a Quarterly Return of Ordinance and Ordnance Stores Received, Issued, and Remaining on Hand; an Abstract of Expenditures; and an Invoice of Stores Turned Over.

Administrative History
The United States's 12th Regiment Michigan Infantry was originally comprised of 2,357 volunteers organized at Niles, Dowagiac, and Buchanan, Michigan from December 9, 1861 to March 5, 1862. The regiment's term of serviced lasted until March 6, 1866, and it engaged Confederate troops at Pittsburg Landing, Tennessee; Middleburg, TN; Little Rock, Arkansas; Iuka, Mississippi; Mechanicsville, MS; Clarendon, AR; Metamora, TN; Vicksburg, MS; and Gregory's Landing, AR. By the end of the American Civil War, the total number of casualties was 316, the vast majority of those occurring from disease.
