Scope and Content

This collection consists of a poem written by A. M. Showalter, called, "An Ode to My Hometown Church Where I Belong." It is dedicated to Christiansburg Presbyterian Church and features a picture of the church.

The poem is written in rhymed couplets and the first couplet reads: "There's a BEAUTIFUL CHURCH, Quite ancient & Old / Established by men, Courageous and BOLD."

Administrative History

Christiansburg Presbyterian Church was founded on October 9, 1827 with a charter membership of 41 people and no building to call its own. However in 1853, the present sanctuary was built. At the time this poem was written, James M. Gregory was the church's pastor.
