Quality Chemical Company Collection

 Collection
Identifier: Ms-2010-039

Scope and Content

The collection contains a promotional letter, a "special starting offer" flyer, an order blank and addressed envelope, and a catalog of chemicals for food flavors, polishes, cleaners, medicinal products, and cosmetics from the Quality Chemical Company of Detroit, Michigan.

The promotional materials detail an offer to "Make Big Money!" by purchasing concentrated chemicals from the Quality Chemical Company. According to the catalog, the chemicals will arrive at the purchaser's house in concentrated form and all that is needed is to "Just add water" to "make flavors, lotions, shampoos, etc." The purchaser will bottle and sell the mixture under the purchaser's own name. The catalog promises that the purchaser will be able to "Run a home factory" and "Be your own boss." Some of the chemicals offered in the catalog include: Chef Brand Spice and other flavors made from natural oils, Hi-Hat quality food flavors, Delora Alice lotions, perfumes, shampoos, and cosmetics, Magic Livestock Spray, and Quality Brand Aspirin Tablets.
