Scope and Content Note

The collection consists of an incomplete letter dated July 8, 1862 from Thomas Haden to his wife talking about marching and battle. He writes of having been sick and "brook down." He writes of a letter from Mr. Hall which might allow him to return home to work in the 'shop,' if the Secretary of War agrees. There are also accounts of the Yankees being driven out of Richmond, Virginia.

Biographical Note

Little biographical information is available on Thomas Haden. Information provided by descendants suggests that he served with a unit of the Army of Northern Virginia (possible the 24th Regiment, Virginia Infantry) and may have been a POW in Elmira, NY, after being wounded at Seven Pines.
