 Collection
Identifier: Ms-2011-098

Scope and Content

The collection consists of one letter from "Edward." He wrote from a Union camp in Petersburg on June 25, 1864. Much of the letter describes his battlefield and camp activity and also includes advice to his cousin William who was up for conscription. The letter ends with an apology for bad penmanship on account of a "poor pencil...and...hot sun" and regards of love.

The envelope with which the letter was sent is also included within the collection. The envelope bears a rare "forwarded" stamp on account of the letter being missent initially to Mississippi.
