Scope and Content
The collection consists of a scrapbook compiled by 1926 graduate, John Dennett Guthrie, containing photos and memorabilia of the cadets years at Virginia Agricultural and Mechanical College and Polytechnic Institute.
Photos in the scrapbook include: the football team, football games, the baseball team, the basketball team, the wrestling team, life in the Corps of Cadets, the Rat Parade of 1922, ROTC training camp, campus, athletic structures, academic buildings, dormitories, the Town of Blacksburg, as well as home and family.
Memorabilia from the scrapbook includes: buttons from his cadet uniform, a university calendar for 1925, a Camp Training Certificate for ROTC, a receipt for third quarter payments, an Athletic Association Pass, dance and prom programs, dinner programs and menus, a list of hours of instruction, company banquet programs, invitations to club events, an issue of the Bulletin of the Virginia Polytechnic Institute (Vol. 19 No. 2), an issue of the VPI Alumnus (November 1929), postcards from relatives, a collection of postage stamps, a photo clipping of Miss America, and advertisements.

Biographical Information
According to the 1926 Bugle, John Dennett Guthrie came to Virginia Tech from Emporia, Virginia and studied Agronomy. Between 1922 and 1923, Guthrie was listed as a private in Company "C" of the Corps of Cadets, a member of the Hoof and Horn Club, and a member of the Lee Literary Society. For the school year 1923 and 1924, Guthrie was listed as a corporal in Company "C," a member of the Hoof and Horn Club and Horticultural Society, as well as participating in company football. Between 1924 and 1925, Guthrie was listed as a private in Company "C" and participating in company football. In his senior year, 1925 and 1926, Guthrie was listed as a private in Company "C," a member of the Petersburg Club, a member of "Fallen Angels," a member of the "Skippers," and participating in company football. After graduating, Guthrie spent much of his life in Virginia. In his later years, he moved to California.
