Scope and Content

This collection contains two ledgers from the Washington Light Guard from 1861. The smaller book contains an essay on the school of the soldier and how it is set up. It also contains attendance records for the members of the organization. The larger book contains the minutes of the meetings of the Washington Light Guard. In the minutes, there is information on who the officers were and who paid their dues.

Historical Note

The Washington Light Guard was a militia company formed in Washington D.C. in 1861. Their first commanding officer was Donald McCathren. The minutes ledger includes entries through August 1861.
