Abstract
This collection consists of pamphlets relating to a variety of specific topics in black history, as well as pamphlets relating to both black history and Africa, the West Indies, Communism, and Asia. Materials date from the 1920s through the 1970s.
Arrangement
The collection is arranged in six series. For the most part, the series reflect the arrangement in which the collection was found in 2009. Please note: Many series overlap, i.e. there are materials on communism in series other than Series IV.
Series I: Topics in Black History consists pamphlets on subjects including (but limited to) Civil Rights and Civil Rights organizations, arts and culture, discrimination, legal issues, drugs, and education. It also includes issues of publications. This series is arranged alphabetically by subject.
Series II: Africa contains pamphlets primarily relating to issues in different countries and regions. Other publications are about European colonialism in Africa and individual people. This series is arranged alphabetically by country/topic.
Series III: West Indies includes pamphlets about islands and countries. Other pamphlets relate to culture, education, and political issues. This series is arranged into two subseries: Countries/Islands and Social and Political Topics. Each subseries is arranged alphabetically by place/topic.
Series IV: Communism contains publications primarily about communism in the United States, with some pamphlets on communism in South America, Africa, and Russia, as well. This series is in its original order, by the numbers assigned to publications.
Series V: Asia includes a small number of publications divided into two subseries. One subseries contains publications about China; the second contains publications about Vietnam.
Series VI: Other Topics includes materials about dating and marriage, financial issues, and the loss of rights of indigenous groups.
