Biographical Note

Peter Logan was a resident of Chesterfield, Virginia. He may have been a freedman prior to the American Civil War.

There is a Peter Logan (ca. 1811-1880), who was a shoemaker in Chesterfield County, Virginia. He was married to Betsey Coy Logan (b. ca. 1820), and the couple had several children. He later married Sarah (b. ca. 1835), and they had several children.

In multiple U.S. Census records, Logan's race is listed as "Mulatto", an antiquated term typically used for someone of mixed Black and white ancestry, while his race is listed as Black in the 1870 U. S. census and death record.
