This collection contains information and printouts about REPOhistory. This collection contains information on the Lower Manhattan Sign Project, Circulation Project, Civil Distubances Project, Out from Under the King George Hotel Project, Urban Encounters Project, and Choice Project, which were all REPOhistory projects. This collection also contains copies of New York Times newspaper articles that mention REPOhistory projects.

Administrative History

REPOhistory, which stands for reposessing history, was founded in 1989 in Manhattan, New York City, New York. The organization was founded by artist, scholars, activist, teachers, writers, and historians that wanted to show the relationship of history to contemporary society through public art projects. The group had a focus on underrepresented communities often omitted from the public historical record. The organization was disbanded in 2001.
