Administrative History
The Wheeling and Lake Erie Railroad or Railway was founded in 1871. In 1912, the railway began expanding the Huron, Ohio, docks, which required demolishing an existing bridge and building a new one and a new line. The company was eventually purchased by Norfolk Southern, until it was sold in 1990. It is now the largest Ohio-based railway.
Also in Huron, Ohio, the Lake Shore Electric Railway, formed in 1901, built a new line called the "Huron Cutoff" line and its substation, opeing in 1918. The company closed in 1938.
