Amelia County, named for princess Amelia of Great Britain, lies West of Richmond in the Commonwealth of Virginia. The county was founded in 1735 and was cut from Prince George and Brunswick Counties, and parts of Amelia were used to create Prince Edward and Nottoway Counties.
