The Russell F. Wright Letter is from Wright to Euphermia O. Gillet on September 25th, 1864, during the American Civil War. The letter contains information about Confederate General Wade Hampton's Beefsteak Raid while Wright was with the 148th Regiment of the New York Infantry in the Union Army, at City Point, Virginia.

Biographical Note

Russell F. (sometimes Russel) Wright was born in Lewis County, New York, and he worked as a wagon maker. During the American Civil War, He enlisted in 1862 at the age of 26 at Hopewell, New York as a Private in Company K of the 148th New York Infantry Regiment of the Union Army. He was promoted to Corporal on January 1, 1863, and was wounded on December 16, 1863, at Yorktown, Virginia. Wright was killed in action at Fair Oaks, Virignia, on October 27, 1864, at the age of 28.
