Biographical Note
Companies "D," "E," "G," and "K" of the 189th, New York Infantry left New York under orders to join the Army of the Potomac before Petersburg September 18, 1864. From October to December, Company "D" was involved in conflicts at Hatcher's Run and Warren's Raid on Weldon Railroad. Between the companies of the 189th, the regiment lost one officer and eight enlisted men in battle and one officer and seventy enlisted men to disease.
