Biographical Note
David Winton Bolen (1850-1932) was born in Carroll County, Virginia. He worked as a laborer before becoming a local teacher in 1869 and, briefly, a land surveyor. Bolen began studying law under a Hillsville, Virginia, judge around that same time and was admitted to the bar in 1875.
