Biographical / Historical
Evelyn Renee Klemstine was born a U.S. citizen in Hamburg, Germany, on June 25, 1958. Her family later moved to Alexandria, Virginia after her parents served several years at the United States embassies in Moscow and Taiwan. Klemstine then enrolled at Virginia Polytechnic Institute (now Virginia Tech), earning her Bachelor of Science in Accounting in 1979. She later earned a Master’s degree in Business Administration from Boston University in 1996. From 1994 to 2004, Evelyn Klemstine served as the Program Director in the International Programs Division of the Department of Defense. From 2004 to 2009, Klemstine served as the Assistant Inspector General for Auditing at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). She then became the Assistant Inspector General of the Department of State until her retirement in August 2013 with 34 years of government civil service experience. Evelyn Klemstine passed away on December 17, 2024.

Abstract
The Evelyn R. Klemstine Collection consists of several plaques, award certificates, medals and medallions; a framed certificate and medal, a framed American flag and certificate for civil service recognition, photographs, and a world clock. All of these items are from around the years of 1994-2013.

The Evelyn R. Klemstine Collection was gifted to Special Collections and Univsersity archives by Georgeanne James Niedringhaus in July 2025.
