Biographical / Historical
Born May 17, 1962, Dr. Craig Leonard Brians was an associate political science professor at Virginia Tech from 1998 until his death in 2013. In addition to serving as the political science department chair, he was the primary author of Empirical Political Analysis. He completed his bachelor’s degree from the California State University, Fresno, and a master’s degree and Ph.D. from the University of California, Irvine. Prior to his academic career, Dr. Brians graduated from the Fresno Police Academy and served in the Fresno Police Force. He married Jessica Folkart, a Virginia Tech professor in foreign languages and literature, and they had four children. Dr. Craig Leonard Brians died unexpectedly at home on November 10, 2013.
