Frank Allen Letter

Abstract

This collection contains a letter from Frank Allen (1843-1938) to his sister, Sallie E. Allen, dated July 8th, 1864, and posted from Kanawha, West Virginia. He describes his company's retreat from Lynchburg and return to Camp Toland, while serving as a private in the Union Army in Company C, 34th Ohio Infantry during the American Civil War.

Abstract

Letter written by James B. Allen to Mother, Nancy Allen in Hanover County, Virginia. Allen's letter, dated August 30, 1863 was written from Orange Court House, Virginia (modern day Orange, Virginia). Allen, a private in Company, I, 15th Virginia Infantry, relates how revivals have been increasing in his regiment and the camp.

Abstract

This collection contains four charms and one pin formerly belonging to VPI student Homer Allison, possibly class of 1959. The charms are inscribed "INAUGURAL PARADE", possibly from 1957; "BAND" and "V.P.I."; "VIRGINIA POLYTECHNIC INSTITUTE" above "1959", possibly Allison's class year; and "VIRGINIA POLYTECHNIC INSTITUTE" and "INTRAMURAL". The pin says "SPQR, R, LATIN CLUB", "HOMER ALLISON", and "55."
