Papers associated with William Addison "Add" Caldwell (1856-1910) of Craig County, Virginia, first student enrolled at Virginia Agricultural and Mechanical College (VAMC, later Virginia Tech). Includes a letter written by Caldwell in 1910; his 1875 VAMC report card; a Caldwell family photo portrait; Caldwell's obituary; and a Bible given to Caldwell by Mrs. William C. McKemey.
Correspondence with potential guests and customers of Craig Healing Springs, a resort hotel in Craig County, Virginia, relating to reservations, pricing, accommodations, and the restorative powers of the spring water.
The J. C. Porter Photograph Album contains a scrapbook of approximately 240 photographs (all c. 1880) of structures and scenes in several southwestern Virginia counties, including Bland, Craig, Giles, and Smyth. It includes photographs of a Chesapeake & Ohio Railroad station in New Castle and Mountain Lake resort hotel. Photographs are believed to have been taken and compiled by Porter.
