This collection contains financial documents, personal records, and ephemera related to the medical practice of Dr. James E. Tarter of Wytheville, Virginia, from about 1879 to 1941.
Western Lunatic Asylum [Staunton, Virginia] Collection
The Western Lunatic Asylum Collection includes correspondence written to the Western Lunatic Asylum in Staunton, Virginia, dating from 1840 through the late 19th century, as well as annual reports from the 1860s and 1900s.
Isaac White Letters
The collection consists of letters written mostly by Isaac White (1837-1889) to his wife, Mary Virginia "Jinnie" Day White, while he served with the Confederate Army as an assistant surgeon during the American Civil War. Many of the letters are written while encamped along the Shenandoah Valley. Other papers include literature gathered by Bess Duvall White Snead, White's grand-daughter, in her search for military information about Isaac White.
Dr. John M. Williams Ledger
Ledger contains the accounting records of Dr. John M. Williams, a physician practicing in Rocky Mount, Virginia. Entries date from 1878 to 1882.
Daniel E. Wright Papers
This collection contains materials dealing with the Panama Canal, the public health activities of the Rockefeller Foundation, the United Nations Public Health Service, and the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration. Also includes correspondence to and from Daniel E. Wright while a colonel on the staff of Gen. Joseph W. Stilwell and at the U.S. Middle Eastern Command Headquarters in Cairo, as well as photographs from his travels.
