William E. Hoge Family Papers

Abstract The Hoge Family was one of the earliest settlers of the New River area of southwest Virginia. William Edward Hoge and his family resided in Point Pleasant, Bland County Virginia, where William Hoge began his medicinal practice in 1855. Hoge was married to Jane L. Isaac Horne Ledgers

This collection contains seven ledgers and one letter from the estate of Isaac Horne (1801-1878) of Glade Spring, Washington County, Virginia. The ledgers show the Hornes owned a dry goods, fabric and tanning business. Transactions are recorded selling leather items to Confederate Soldiers during the American Civil War.
