Abstract

This historical map of Wythe County, Virginia, was compiled from maps, historical records, and traditions by J. R. Hildebrand. It contains a brief history of the county surrounding the map, and on the map are identified locations for incidents of historical interest. The map is bordered by a list of names of men who, presumably, lived in the county. The bottom left corner contains a map of smaller scale, so one can find Wythe County in wouthwestern Virginia.

Abstract

The James Anthony Letter is written by James Anthony in Buchanan, Virginia, on August 2, 1850, to Colonel James A. Pipen in Wytheville, Virginia. Anthony describes a job offer from the James River Company and his resignation from his job working for Colonel Pipen, shows admiration for his employer, and offers a replacement for his position.

Abstract The Robert L. Atwell Letters are comprised of letters to Atwell, who was at the Naval Acadamy and stationed at various submarines, including the U.S.S. Savannah in Charleston, South Carolina and the U.S.S. Rainbow in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, during World War I. The majority of the letters are from his wife, Lucy, in Whytheville, Virignia during early 1919, and detail how much she loves and misses him as well as daily events, like having tea and visiting friends.
