William Avery Stratton Correspondence
Turner Family Papers
The Turner Family Papers consists of multiple sets of correspondence to members of generations of the extended Turner family written between 1830 and 1944. The bulk of the collection is letters between Lexie Fox and his wife, Bessie, written during World War I.
James G. Turner Correspondence
The James G. Turner Correspondence contains 21 letters. 20 letters date from 1863-1864 written from Camp Taylor in Augusta County, VA. The letters detail regimental activities, camp life, war news, updates on family members who were also serving, rations, and hunting deserters. One letter is from 1871 which details updates on family members who were sick.
William Gildersleeve Vardell Letters
William Gildersleeve Vardell (1829-1897) of South Carolina was a Major in the Confederate Army during the American Civil War. The collection consists of photocopies of 48 letters, dated 1862-1863, from Vardell to his wife Jennie, about his experiences on the war front, and 1 letter from 1882 to Mrs. J. Jackson.
N. B. White Letter to Darius White
The collection consists of a single letter from N. B. White to his cousin, Darius, written from Boliver Heights, near Harper's Ferry, West Virginia, dated October 19, 1862....
Jacob S. Winans Correspondence,
The collection includes two letters and their original envelope from Jacob S. Winans to his father Dr. Isaac Winans. Both letters were sent in the same envelope. They were written after Winans's return to Camp Tennally (Tennallytown, Maryland) after serving picket at Great Falls, Virginia from September 9-16, 1861.
Woodstock, Virginia, Civil War Letter
This collection includes a letter dated May 13, 1864, from a Union soldier named Charley at a camp near Woodstock, Virginia, during the American Civil War. He writes about plans to return to Martinsburg, Virginia, and about General Sigel.
Yancey Family Papers
The Yancey Family Papers contains correspondence between members of the Yancey and Everett families, accounts, receipts, the will of Christopher Taliaferro, and a facsimile Confederate Ten Dollar note. The material dates from 1808 to 1912.
