William Edward Hoge and his family resided in Point Pleasant, Bland County Virginia, where William Hoge began his medicinal practice in 1855. Hoge was married to Jane L. Abstract Lucy Lee Lancaster was born in Blacksburg, Virginia in 1905 and lived there until she died in 1989. She was one of the first women admitted to Virginia Agricultural and Mechanical College and Polytechnic Institute (popularly known as VPI), and after graduating in 1925, she went on to earn her MLS from Columbia University Library School. Abstract

This collection contains the correspondence of Nathan L. (1819-1909) and Sarah A. B. Lincoln Look (1826-1857), who settled in Virginia in the 1840s and lived in Loudoun, Botetourt, Montgomery, and Smyth counties. There is also correspondence with other members of the Lincoln and Look families in Massachusetts and New York; together with transcripts and summaries of the letters; and a few pieces of miscellanea.

Fannie Lorentz Letter

Abstract

The Fannie Lorentz Letter is by Lorentz (1829-1864) to her husband Mifflin (1823-1891), dated April 12, 1862, from "Cabin Home" (now Shawsville), Virginia. Lorentz describes recent events in her and her children's lives, such as problems with getting wood, issues with hens, and being ill. She also discusses a letter she read to her neighbor from Jimmie Langhorne about being wounded by "Yankees" in Delaware during the American Civil War.
