Scope and Content From the Collection:

This collection contains the papers, photographs, diplomas, certificates, correspondence, and scrapbooks of Benjamin Cottrell. Cottrell graduated from VPI in 1916 and spent his career working as a highway and railroad engineer in Costa Rica and Bolivia. Much of the newspapers, scrapbooks, photographs, and other papers in the collection relate to his work abroad. Other materials relate to his activities as a VPI alumnus.

Scope and Content From the Collection: The Robert E. Hord, Jr., Papers have been devided into two series based upon material type. Series I consist primarily of letters written by Robert E. Hord, Jr., to his parents, Robert and Gladys Hord while serving in the army during World War II. Also present are two letters written to Robert Hord, Jr. by "Cousin Otto" and Al Bungardner. The collection houses memorabilia of Isaac Hoppensteins. Hoppenstein, a business major, graduated from Virginia Polytechnic and State University in 1937.The collection has been divided into five series: Academic Papers, Correspondence, Newspapers, Photographs, and Publications. Altogether, materials range from 1923-1940, but most of the collection dates from the 1930s.
