This collection includes the Papers--including printed materials, correspondence, research notes, photographs, and ephemera--collected by James C. V. Emond, pastor of Fairlawn Church of Christ (Galax, Virginia), while researching the history of his church and the surrounding community.

The Byllesby, Virginia, Dam Construction Photograph Album contains 110 silver gelatin prints in a black photograph album that documents the step-by-step construction of the Byllesby dam and associated power generating structures on the in Carroll County, Virginia in the Blue Ridge Mountains.

The "Sawmilling in Carroll County, Virginia as Recalled by Ezra Martin" Typescript is a recounting by Ezra Martin (1895-1984) to his grandson Tommy Largen about his life working in the sawmill industry in Carroll County, Virginia. It contains information about Martin's birth, childhood, marriage, family, work life, and retirement. The typescript also includes photographs of family and locations.

The collection contains project files and drawings related to more than 1,500 residences, churches, businesses, schools, and community buildings, predominantly in the Roanoke and Southwest Virginia area, designed by Smithey & Boynton, mostly between 1935 and 1957.
